Energy is everything. Everything is energy. We are made of and surrounded by beings and things that are energy.

Yoga takes a special interest in energy and it’s something overlooked quite often in a yoga practice. “Yoga is about quieting the mind, “ said Patanjali. It’s about quieting the mind through handling our energy. In yoga, we call it the subtle anatomy or the energy body.

You can feel it if you sit quietly and focus on the sensations in your body. At this time in our world energies are ever changing and moving quickly. Many of us turn to substances, medication, movement, and food to handle our energy. This can be good and it can be not so good for us.

I invite you over the next few posts to take a look at your energy body, how you interact and mingle your energy with others, and how you might handle it a bit better.

Let’s start with the cakra (chakra) system.

In my yoga lineage, as well as many others, there are 7 main cakras, the root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye, and crown. Each governs a specific part of the body yet they are all connected and an inter-related system. Each energy center is influenced by what we do, eat, and think.

When we care for our body and our mind, we care for the physical body, pranic body, mental body, energy body and spiritual body. If we fail to care for one body, it shows in another body.

Our environment and our senses that take in information affect every part of us, every cell and all of our energetic connections.

So the best thing we can do for ourselves, our entire system, is to practice sensible self-care—drinking fresh clean water, sleep, breathing in clean air, eating healthy, organic foods, moving, and spending thoughtful quiet time. Our interactions with others and the planet also enhance or deter our human system.

How are you caring for your system? I’d love to hear.
